Southport Community Rallies with "Southport Strong Together Appeal" Following Knife Attack

The Community Foundation for Merseyside has launched the "Southport Strong Together Appeal" in response to the devastating knife attack in Southport. The urgent fundraising initiative, in collaboration with Sefton Council and Sefton CVS, aims to support those affected by the tragic event at The Hart Space dance studio.

The appeal has already secured an initial donation of £50,000 from the Liverpool ONE Foundation. This substantial contribution will help address both the immediate and long-term needs of victims and their families.

The knife attack, which occurred Monday 29th June around 11:47 AM, tragically claimed the lives of three children. Additionally, five children and two adults remain in critical condition.

Rae Brooke, CEO of the Community Foundation for Merseyside, emphasised the foundation's commitment to the community. "We cannot change the devastating events that have unfolded in our community, or reverse the grief and pain that so many will be feeling - but we can make a difference to those whose lives have been affected," she said. "We are launching the Southport Strong Together Appeal to raise funds for the children and adults directly involved, their loved ones, and the wider community."

Marion Atkinson, Leader of Sefton Council, echoed this sentiment. "It is clear that the public is looking for ways they can help those affected by the heart-breaking events that took place in Southport yesterday. The Southport Strong Together Appeal is offering the public a trusted place to show that support. Their donations will ensure help can be offered to those affected as quickly as possible in a range of ways."

Angela White, CEO of Sefton CVS, highlighted the broader impact of the appeal. "The Southport Strong Together Appeal offers a way for the local community and wider UK public to come together to signal their solidarity and support for those affected by yesterday’s attack. Donations will not only help to meet the immediate needs of those impacted, but will ensure we can put vital services in place for longer-term care, such as mental health support."

Funds raised through the appeal will provide direct support to those who have lost loved ones or sustained injuries, and will also be allocated as grants to local and regional charities delivering essential services.
