New Research Reveals Funding Disparities for Black-led Non-profits in Liverpool City Region
A ground-breaking report by LCVS, in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA), has uncovered significant barriers faced by Black-led Nonprofit Organisations (BLNOs) in accessing funding within the Liverpool City Region.
The study highlights several critical challenges, including overly complex application processes, lack of understanding from funders about BLNOs' unique needs, and bias in traditional funding criteria. In response, the report recommends implementing user-friendly application methods, adopting equitable scoring systems, and facilitating regular dialogue between funders and Black-led organisations.
Sonia Bassey, MBE, Chair of LCVS, emphasised the importance of addressing systemic racism and inequity in the funding landscape, stating, "We need a commitment to equity that goes beyond words and leads to real, tangible change."
The report calls for immediate action from funders, support infrastructure organisations, and policymakers to create a more level playing field for Black-led non-profits. VS6 will be working closely with The Phoenix Way to analyse the report's findings and identify concrete ways the partnership can support and advocate for BLNOs across the region.
