In October last year the VS6 Partnership organised and hosted the Sustainable and Affordable Food Assembly in partnership with Together Liverpool as part of a series of assembly events with the VCFSE sector. 68 individuals from over 80 organisations across Liverpool City Region attended.

The assembly was an opportunity to start to think strategically about how we might develop a sustainable and affordable food plan for the region, beyond just emergency provision towards what individuals, organisations and governance can do to make real social change happen. To do this, the assembly event focused on identifying groups at-risk of food insecurity and discussing potential solutions for those vulnerable groups at local, regional and national levels.

We are therefore pleased to introduce the latest VS6 Assembly Report summarising the feedback from the Sustainable and Affordable Food Assembly which provides “the first steps toward a vision for a sustainable and affordable food plan for the Liverpool City Region”.

As per our previous assembly reports, the recommendations within this report are born from the knowledge and expertise shared by the attendees at the assembly event and feedback received from attendees on the draft report; this way the voice of the VCFSE sector is at centre stage.

Following on from this report, we will use the recommendations to further conversations around the issue of food sustainability and affordability in the region with the Combined Authority, and to form the foundations of a whole system approach to tackling food poverty and food insecurity in Merseyside.

We hope that you find the report useful and please feel free to share it within your networks.

VS6 will be looking to organise more assemblies throughout 2021 covering a variety of topics so please keep an eye out on our website and Twitter page to get involved with these.
